Maybe Your Parents Aren't Always Right
I love my parents.
They drive me crazy sometimes, like any family member can, but I still love them.
As I get older and grow and learn, I've realized that maybe my parents aren't always right.
Shocking, I know.
When you're a kid, you tend to be very gullible. You tend to be very trusting. You tend to believe what your parents or guardians tell you, and many times you end up sharing their opinions.
Because this is how you were raised.
This is what you always heard.
This is what you've always known.
And maybe when you voice your own opinions, you are quickly rebuffed and made to feel like you are wrong.
Maybe they don't mean to, but that's how they make you feel.
As I gain knowledge and wisdom and am exposed to many different ways of thinking through classmates, professors, friends, and the internet, my opinions and ideas shift and change.
Some of the things I think or believe now may be a stark difference to what my parents think.
But that's okay.
You're allowed to have your own opinions.
You're allowed to think that No, maybe this isn't the best way.
Now, don't get me wrong, your parents can be right about a lot of things.
Most parents want what's best for you.
And it's so important to look at multiple sides and views.
Because maybe you're both wrong.
Maybe you're both right.
Know that it's okay to form your own opinions and think differently than how you were raised.
But still take into account what your family says about things.
Now I am better at standing my ground and forming my own opinions.
Now I am better at being slow to agree with my parents when we talk about important things.
It's okay to think differently.
Just a thought.
... See ya

Love this! My parents and I have political chats all the time and even though I have taught myself my own views and informed myself enough to make my own decisions, out ideas seem to agree more often than not. I get shade from my brother about that, but truthfully, that’s just how it is. Love hearing your thoughts! ❤️
